The National Shura

The national shura of FAMSY encompasses the respective state and territory Presidents and Vice-Presidents. The national President is appointed by the national shura.

 Our current national shura is detailed below:

National President - Umar Batchelor (FAMSY QLD, President)

Umar is currently the National President of FAMSY and has been an active member of the Muslim community through various youth programs and project managing Queensland’s Islamic Awareness Week. His has also participated in the Prime Minister’s Muslim Reference Group and Dept of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s exchange program with Malaysia. Professionally, Umar is a Chartered Accountant and is a superannuation specialist at the Australia Taxation Office.

National Shura Member- Mohammad Helmy (FAMSY VIC, President)

Mohammad has been president for FAMSY Victoria since July 2005. Within FAMSY, he was the project leader for the 2005 annual conference which hosted Anas Altikriti and Jamal Badawi and played key roles in numerous other prominent Islamic projects. Professionally, he has a Masters in Water Engineering and is recognized as having expertise in the field of recycled water treatment. He has acted as the Engineering Manager for some of Australia’s largest Water Treatment Plants.

National Shura Member- Ahmad Huwait(FAMSY VIC, Vice-President)

Ahmed is currently the vice president of FAMSY Victoria, and the national Tarbyah (training) coordinator. He has a good experience in student and youth work, and he is currently leading the FAMSY Tarbyah Program update project. Professionally, Ahmed is working as a Software Integration Consultant in a multi-national software firm in Melbourne.

National Shura Member- Ishqi Shuaib(FAMSY QLD, Vice-President)

Ishqi is currently the vice-president of FAMSY Queensland and has been an active member for the last five years. He has been involved in the regeneration of FAMSY in Queensland helping to establish and manage the Brisbane Islamic voice Soccer League and working with other youth organizations to promote the role and voice of youth leaders in Queensland. Professionally, Ishqi is a senior consultant within the IT and telecommunications industry and is on the verge on completing a Masters in Business and Technology.

National Shura Member- Abdulah Zayied(FAMSY NSW, President)

Abdulah is the current state President of FAMSY NSW and has been actively involved with FAMSY for over two years. Abdulah was one of the primary coordinators of the 2008 FAMSY Conference which hosted Sheikh Abdur Rahman Helbawi (United Kingdom) and Dr. Abdul Latiff Mohamed (Malaysia). Professionally Abdulah Recently Graduated from the University of Technology Sydney with a Bachelor of Business (International Business) and Bachelor of Science (Forensic Biology). On an individual level Abdulah enjoys a wide range of sporting and recreational activities. He competes both in soccer and cycling as a road-cyclist and enjoys other activities like hiking and adventure travel.

National Shura Member- Fayez Moussa(FAMSY NSW, Vice-President)

Fayez is the current Vice-President of FAMSY NSW and has been a member of FAMSY for over 10 years. He joined the FAMSY Tarbyah program while still in high school, and was elected on to the NSW shura in 2008. He was one of the founding members of the MSA Student Career Expo and has been involved in its running since 2007. He  graduated from the University of New South Wales with a Bachelor of Computer Science (Honours). Professionally, Fayez is working as a software engineer in a boutique software development company.
