We're Back!

Asalam Alaikum to the people of internet-land!

Firstly welcome back to the FAMSY website. We had a few technical problems a few months ago, so we decided to take the opportunity to redesign and update our site. Hopefully we’ve been successful in doing this, but I’m not holding my breath.

My name is Abdulah Zayied and I’ve been involved with the FAMSY-NSW chapter for around two years. I’m now part of a new, young, and active team that is now responsible for the NSW chapter of FAMSY.

Since you last heard from us we have been up to a number of things. We conducted one of our most successful Annual Conferences in late July, and also had one of our most memorable “Boys Youth Camps” in late August. So there is a lot to catch up on, and a lot more to come!

There are a number of activities that FAMSY is renowned for. Our recreational, sports and camping events are conducted all year round, and are some of the most sought after activities by the young and youthful of Australia’s diverse Muslim community.

But perhaps our most valued program and core competency revolves around the mentorship and development of individuals into confident, mature, and socially aware young leaders. Our Tarbiyah program is a complete and comprehensive program that focuses on personal development in every facet.

We hope to have a number of new halaqa’t (study circles) that will cater for both male and female students. Please visit us regularly for more updates on this.

At the moment we are in the final stages of planing our upcoming event, LIVE LEARN & PLAY “Summer of 09”, which is the first time in a long time that we have catered for Sisters in regards to our camps. Not only is the inclusion of Sisters at this camp groundbreaking, but the addition of three “in-focus” workshops, which will be delivered by a number of prominent speakers. So not only will this camp be full of the usual memorable recreational activities, but also an opportunity to develop and further your Islamic knowledge. We hope to have our final few places filled very soon, especially since over 75% have already been snapped up.

Finally just before I sign off on this first of many articles (I hope), I’d like to thank all the hard-working individuals at FAMSY who volunteer their time and efforts to work for their community and I hope many more of you can join us in the not too distant future.

Please check back regularly for information on activities and events as they are introduced. In the meantime have a look around our new website, and let us know what you think.

Wa’Salam,

Abdulah Zayied.
